Xiaomi Mi 6X (Mi A2) with dual camera to launch in China today: Here's what you need to know

Xiaomi Mi 6X, the successor of Mi 5X, will be officially unveiled at an event in Wuhan, China today. The smartphone is expected to be the next big offer in Xiaomi's mid-range segment as it seeks to strengthen its position in China's smartphone market. Mi 6X, once launched in China, is expected to be launched as Mi A2 under the Android One brand in markets like India.

Ahead of its official announcement, Mi 6X has been part of several leaks and has even been stopped by TENAA, China's telecommunications authority to explain its specifications. In the morning, Mi 6X also appears in the form of photos and live video, which gives a clear picture of the device. Xiaomi officials have also gotten to the game and have posted some camera samples to detail the various improvements that come to the camera department. Mi 6X is expected to follow Redmi Note 5 Pro design guidance and is expected to display Full HD + 5.99 inch screen with 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution and 18: 9 aspect ratio. It is also expected to be supported by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 660 SoC and will be launched in three storage options: 4GB RAM variant with either 32GB or 64GB of storage and 6GB of RAM variant with 64GB of storage.


Xiaomi Mi 6X is also expected to feature an enhanced dual camera system with a combination of 20 megapixel and 8 megapixel image sensor. Up front, it's possible to sport a 20-megapixel selfie shooter along with special LED lights. Leaked so far revealed that the Mi 6X will remove the 3.5mm audio jack and even bundled with USB Type-C to 3.5mm dongle headphones.

Mi 6X is listed on the official Android website and is expected to run MIUI 9 based on Android 8.1 Oreo when it becomes official today. This smartphone is also expected to arrive with Android 8.1 Oreo and will be called Mi A2. Mi 6X is expected to pack a 2,910 mAh battery, which is smaller than the 3.080 mAh battery found on the Mi 5X but may offer better battery life due to the new processor. In terms of price, the Mi 6X is likely to be priced at RMB 1,799 (approx. Rs 18,000) for the base model and RMB 1,999 (about Rs 20,000 for a variant with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage.
