By the end of 2016, the rumor plant is in full swing and the painting paints a stunning picture of what will happen in 2017.

Mobile Phone Bendy Mobile Phone super powered. The new iPhone really looks like a new iPhone. Things look up after gloomy 2015 and 2016 are a little better.

The new release from Samsung as well as great steps forward with imaging and overall computing performance from everyone in the expected space. As usual, the major releases are Samsung and Apple-related. But I am always excited to see what BlackBerry, LG, OnePlus and Huawei do.

From the point of view of late 2016, 2017 sounds like a bad year for phone releases.

However, I have not had my socks blown by anything yet; Although Paul convinced me the Galaxy S8 Plus is as good as people say. I think I should take his words for it.

Can LG G6 bring some much needed excitement to the table? Is that a genuine Galaxy S8 competitor? Or does LG miss that sign once again with its essential flagship release?

"LG Mobile Communications Company reported revenues of KRW 3.01 trillion (USD 2.61 billion)," LG said in a press release, "increased 4 percent quarter-on-quarter and 2 percent year-over-year, driven by the launch of LG G6 and the latest mass tier models. "

Added: "The company reported shipments of smartphones of 14.8 million units in the quarter, up 10 percent from the first quarter of last year largely because of the US While last year's reorganization effect began to bear fruit, price competition in the mass-tier segment and competition from flagship models others are expected to increase this year. "

LG G6 plays a big role in this upshift. But is the phone a true competitor in the hyper-competitive market of 2017?

Let's find out.

LG G6 Review: Design

I am a big fan of LG G5 and I am not afraid to admit this, regardless of the unpopularity of handsets with buyers last year. I like the looks, love the imaging technology it displays, which is in front of the curve, and overall just really enjoys the use of the handset.

LG G6 is MUCH more reasonable. Nothing hard, from the top or in your face about the design language, any proportions or styles for this problem. For me, LG G6 looks like the Galaxy S8 is less interesting and less interesting, and like the design of Google Pixel does not seem to be a big problem here; It's a bit distorted, letting you continue with what you want on the screen.

This phone, like almost all flagships coming this year, is all about the look and, more specifically, what's inside. That's why HDR has been present in mobile displays; OEM pursues further clarity and more detail to make the experience profound and deep.

It looks quite smart, with its sleek chassis and a longer and thinner look but, for the life of me, I can not find anything that REALLY likes from its looks. I've looked high and low for something but I keep coming short. There's nothing wrong with this phone, all the building materials are premium and handset proportionately well, but nothing really shows up and catches your attention like the previous LG flag.

Like all previous models, the fingerprint sensor remains on the back of the phone and the front of the handset is almost entirely rotated by the display (touch panel ratio up to 85%). There are bezels at the top and bottom and sides, however, so this is not a bezel-less screen by any stretch of the imagination. I love the new 18: 9 aspect ratio for displays, as it makes handsets easier to handle in one hand.

G6 is available in various colors; I have my two time with the handset because the first unit has an ingenious battery. I think I prefer black over the strange and off-metallic-blue options he replaced. Both models are INSANE's fingerprints, however, matte cases are strongly recommended.

Battery also can not be removed again. Although G6 does not support SD card. Passing is also a modular aspect that split last year's opinion. And there is no place. The overall design is "safer" in addition to waterproof and dust, the first in LG mobile phones in the UK, better display and slightly better specifications.

Needless to say that the "design" aspect of the review, any review, really, is very subjective and, for my sins, I am not a fan of the way this phone looks. It's like Pixel in this case, because it marks all my regular boxes but it does so with a bit of a fuss. It feels far too predestination for a company that, just 12 months ago, is trying to really reconsider how a modern phone should function.

Maybe I expect too much? Now seen from the handset has been criticized, let's see what is under the awning LG G6.

LG G6 Review: Specs & Performance

  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • 5.7in 18: 9 2880x1440 Quad HD display, 565ppi
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 Processor
  • Graphics Adreno 530
  • 4GB RAM
  • 32 / 64GB Storage (depending on region)
  • 13Mp dual rear camera, LED LED OIS 2.0 (F1,8, 125 °) / 13MP wide (F2.4, 125 °) / 13MP Standard LED OIS 2.0 (F1.8, 71 °)
  • Front camera 5Mp, Width (F2.2 / 100 °)
  • 11 a / b / g / n / ac Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 4.2
  • 4G LTE
  • SIM Nano (Dual SIM in some areas)
  • GPS
  • NFC
  • Hi-Fi Quad DAC (only in Korea)
  • 3.300mAh battery can not be removed
  • Wireless charging (US only)
  • Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0
  • IP68 waterproof
  • 9 x 71.9 x 7.9mm

When you read this specification, you'll see something a bit creepy: UK users have been gamely connected by LG in connection with the G6, because the UK unit does not have the LG Hi-Fi Quad DAC feature or wireless charging, which is a bit of a bummer. Do not worry: LG still charges you the same.

I do not know why this happened; I can not imagine the thought process or the logic behind such a decision. But the situation as it is - LG deliberately sabotages himself in England. And, to make matters worse, this change is not reflected in the price of the handset, because the G6 still costs £ 650.

LG also uses Qualcomm's Snapdragon 821, which was the platform last year. There is a reason for this, though: Samsung buys all Snapdragon 835 chipsets and effectively captures everyone in that place.

Fortunately, Snapdragon 821 is a highly qualified chipset and the effect of this decision is negligible. At least in my experience. LG G6 flying together as you would expect from a reliable handset. No problems, crashes and apps and games loaded twice quickly.

The phone also boots up very quickly too; about 20 seconds faster than my XL Pixel, which, somehow, takes about two weeks to boot recently.

During my time with the handset, I never found myself saying, "Gosh, I missed the Snapdragon 835 chipset." It's quite telling about the state of today's mobile technology; How crazy the actual racing specifications are and how little differences can be seen between these two CPUs when using them every day.

LG G6 Review: Software

LG's software on the G6 is quite customizable. You can change the theme around, change the look and feel of icons, and basically tweak them to your heart's content. Visually, quite nicely though there are some elements that are quite disturbing.

The most annoying thing is the fact that to access the app tray you have to slide your finger down on the main screen - there is no shortcut or option to put in a shortcut that I can find inside the software. And this sucks because now it takes three gestures to get into the app tray, whereas it's used to retrieve it.

Huawei P10 is similar, although Huawei wisely gives you the option to add shortcut keys to the app tray. I do not mind if all my apps are on the main screen of my phone, but I want to have a choice of how I access my app tray - three gestures to get there too much.

There is also a LOT of bloatware on this phone. I do not remember there are a lot of useless apps on LG G5, but I could be wrong. Either way, G6 has many apps you will never use that need to be secreted into folders. This is usually the first thing I do when installing a non-Pixel / Nexus phone. Maybe it's time to let go of the ghost, the Android phone maker?

This software is very responsive, and I love the Camera app - it is very simple and very intuitive to use. And since you have access to the Manual Mode, you can actually go to town on the settings and create some really beautiful compositions.

LG has equipped the G6 with Android Nougat, so you run the latest build and that means you have all the latest tweaks, optimisations and security features. I miss my Android stock every time I test a non-Pixel / Nexus phone but to be honest I do not mind the look of LG UX. The only thing that really sucks is you do not have the Google Now tab at the far left (a feature I'm really used to) and a troublesome three-step process to get to the app tray.

Also, if you really hate LG's custom software, simply go to the Play Store and download the new launcher. There are lots of really great things right now like Google Now Launcher, which brings Android images to non-stock Android phones.

pdate: LG Adds Official Support To Unlock BootLoader

As of June 1, word has emerged that LG has added official support for unlocked bootloader on LG G6, especially the European model H870. This means users can now add custom ROMs to their LG G6 smartphone to change the UI, functionality, and overall experience. However, it still applies to the warranty on the device.

Android Oreo Update Up To End of June 2018

A page on the official LG website has seen a tip where LG G6 will be updated to Android Oreo in Europe by the end of June. The page specifies that the Oreo will arrive in the first half of 2018 - which means it can happen by the end of June because that's when the first half of the term ends. LG's Twitter account from Italy, however, has narrowed it a bit more by saying that it will enter in the second quarter of this year, so between the beginning of April and the end of June.

LG G6 Review: Camera

The G6 has a nice wide-angle lens camera on the back. LG is one of the first brands to drive this technology and once you use it, you will not like it back to standard, single lens capture.

The difference made the shot very unusual. The dual-lens camera is one of the reasons why I became a big fan of LG G5 last year. Images taken in either mode (standard or wide angle) are very detailed and sharp, giving you a decent light.

The wide-angle lens is great for capturing great landscapes, venues, or landscapes, while the best standard lenses for more focused and detailed shooting because there is no OIS on the wide-angle lens. Auto-HDR mode, which adds less than half a second to processing time, ensures all colors and details are balanced.

This is a great point and shoot camera, its performance is very close to what I see from Galaxy S8, just the wide-angle lens you want here. I am constantly impressed by the details in the shots, the intuitive nature of the software and the awesome images you can take when shooting in manual mode.

And if yourself is your thing, the G6 front camera, 5MP setup, has a wide angle lens of 100ยบ as well, which means you can fit a LOT into the shot and produce a better overall result.

LG G6 Review: Battery Life

I have two LG G6 units during my test period; The first is a broken preproduction handset with AWFUL batteries. LG has kindly transformed it into a free class model and the difference in its performance, well ... quite significant.

Battery performance is very solid here. It's not crazy like Pixel XL or Huawei Mate 9. But that would be enough for hardcore users though though. I push my phone loudly throughout the day with calls, video, imaging, navigation, email, text and more calls, so if I can skip a full day in G6, 97% of you will do well.

Pixel XL, Huawei P10, OnePlus 3T and Galaxy S8 Plus are all better in my experience. But only in most cases. If battery life is the biggest concern when buying a new phone, the G6 is definitely not the only thing to be avoided, although there are better players out there with less or equal money.

LG only scored a respectable 7.5 / 10 in this department.

LG G6 Review: Verdict

Throughout the testing period, I had one question that hovered in my head: Who is this phone? Who will buy this through Galaxy S8? Or OnePlus 3T? I do not understand.

And now, after two weeks with the handset, I still no one is wiser. I do not know who will buy the LG G6 via Samsung Galaxy S8 or Google Pixel XL or iPhone 7, all of which cost the same. I have no idea; no show can convince me to get this handset, say, OnePlus 3T, which is MUCH cheaper and, IMHO, a better rounder phone.

And herein lies the problem, for me ... from a critical point of view of LG G6, no matter how you slice it, just as neither good nor as impressive as your closest and dearest partner and this fact makes it hard to really fall in love with.

This is also very embarrassing because over the past few years LG has consistently embarrassed me with its flagships, innovations and efforts in doing things differently.

LG G6 with comparison just feels very, very reasonable ... and I kinda hate it for this reason. I was expecting something from the wall, like the G5 again, but the G6 just feels like a prototype of a fatigued Galaxy S8 that does not quite make the final cut.

It's good in everything you just phone by; it's just TOTALLY boring and this is not the usual style of LG, hence why i am really disappointed with this phone though its actually very nice.
