How to improve PUBG FPS performance on Android with GFX Tools

Android has turned into a great gaming platform for mobile gamers and developers. This is evident from the fact that big names like Razer, Xiaomi and Asus are all trying to capitalize on this market. Razer started with a game focusing Razer Phone, followed by Xiaomi's Black Shark and Rus's Asus phone. These are all expensive devices, compared to those not designed for gaming. Not everyone can afford it and not everyone wants it. You can still play well on most Android devices today. One of the hottest games currently on Android is PUBG. And if you play PUBG, you know it might be able to improve its FPS performance.

Unless you have the latest Android flagships supported by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, you're most likely to experience some frame declines while playing PUBG. The tsoml developer has found a solution, especially for those of you with budget Android devices. The GFX Tool is a new Android app meant to increase the frames per second you get in PUBG. This app significantly increases the frame rate but does not expect miracles to occur. You may be able to create 10 or 20 additional frames, but that's enough to significantly improve performance. We have to warn you, game developers generally do not like hack and mod like this.

There is a massive online game history like Clash of Clans, Pokemon Go, etc. Which forbids users from using mod to gain an edge over others. PUBG seems to only prohibit mod and not user, this is what they have done on PC version. But unlikely, their attitude can change whenever they like.

The GFX Tool works without root but not in every case. For most of the world, PUBG is still on version 6.0. GFX Tool can change the frame rate in this PUBG version. Users in China have received 0.7 updates, however, and this version does not allow the GFX Tool to work properly. In order for the GFX Tool to change the graphics settings and thereby increase the FPS, it will require root access or PUBG version 0.7. This is why choosing the correct PUBG version becomes very important.

If you're not sure, you can see the version number in the top left corner when the game starts. Alternatively, you can go to the App info screen in your device Settings to check the version number. GFX Tools allows you to manually select some of the other settings described below.

Resolution

You probably already know what that resolution is. If you play games on PC, you also know precisely this setting. More resolution means more pixels to be pulled by the processor. These days even the most basic smartphones have at least a 720p screen while most of the smartphone features are at least a 1080p screen.

Some, like Honor 8 Pro even have Quad HD screens. This can cause some serious performance lag. GFX Tool lets you choose the resolution at which PUBG will run. Choosing a lower resolution is guaranteed to increase FPS and this is probably the most important factor on budget devices.

Chart

This is another area where you can increase the frame rate to degrade the graphics quality. PUBG has enabled a number of graph options in settings ranging from Low to High and HD. There are even more settings not yet accessible from the PUBG settings, but the GFX Tool can allow you to select them. When you try to increase FPS even though increasing the graphics is the opposite direction to go. You most likely want to choose HD Smooth or Fine if you feel your device is too strong for Smooth. FYI, Smooth, here, means lower than Low graph. Sounds bad but it's not.

FPS

FPS, or frames per second, is all about this. Unless your device shows more frequent warming problems than does it cause battery slowdown and damage in some cases, you'll want the highest permissible frame rate. And that's what this arrangement does. This lets you choose the maximum frame rate that should be allowed.

Anti-Aliasing

Have you ever played games and wondered why all the angles look like pixelated? This pixelation is actually happening all over but most noticeable in the corner. Anti-Aliasing tries to obscure pixelation resulting in smoother and more handsome images, and thus a better game. As you can guess right now, this takes more power from the GPU and produces a lower frame rate. For the best frame rate, you want to disable this.

Style

Style is a setting You can also change in-game from PUBG settings. It has nothing to do with FPS or performance and purely cosmetic settings. This changes the color saturation level in the game. It's better to skip this setting so you can change it in the game according to your preference.

Shadows

Enabling shadows in the game requires more power because this game should make the image move more. Shadows can be useful when you try to find the enemy while trying not to get caught. We do not feel this is really profitable on a small smartphone screen like on a PC. Disabling the shadow will result in a higher frame rate, but the choice is yours.

Vulkan

Vulkan refers to the 2D graphics rendering and 3D Vulkan API introduced in Android 7.0 Nougat. Selecting Vulkan helps the frame rate, but is only available on Android 7.0+ devices. For most others, OpenGL 2.0 will provide the best frame rates.
